MK Parents FAQ Welcome to Mission Kids! Thank you for enrolling your child - we are very much looking forward to getting to know him/her this year. Please take a few moments to read through this quick fire guide to familiarize yourself with the day to day running of Mission Kids. How is Mission Kids not your usual "after school care" Mission Kids is more than just your usual "after school care programme". From the outset Mission Kids has been designed to compliment your child's learning by aligning its programmes to the vision and values of the Mission Heights schools as well as the NZ Curriculum. Although it is not our responsibility to "teach" the curriculum we support it by focussing on a different aspect of it each afternoon in our uniquely named activities: We like to think Mission Kids as a specially designed "adventure" that begins each day "after school". My child will only attend three afternoons per week, what rate should I pay? All regular bookings regardless of frequency qualify for a reduced rate. This rate is $8 (before school and after school 3 - 4pm) and $14 (after school 3 - 6pm). Add an additional $2 per session for casual bookings. How can I advise you my child will not be present? You can text / ph Emma (027 517 3869/273 7985) before 2:30pm. If you have not notified us by 2:30pm that your child will be absent, an additional $10 penalty fee will apply. Please note that there are no refunds for absences. What happens if I am late to pick up my child? We will stay with your child until you arrive. If you are more than 10 minutes late we will call you. A late fee of $10 per 10 mins will also apply. What is the procedure for collecting my child? You need to sign your child out at the sign out table located by the door everyday. Please make sure they have all their belongings with them. What do I do if Mission Kids is not in the hall when I arrive? Check the sign out table. We will leave a sign letting you know where we are. (We love to take the children to the fields or the park when the weather is good). Where do I look if my child has lost something? Lost property is kept in a crate on the kitchen counter. To help us please clearly label your children's clothes, lunch boxes and other possessions. Any unclaimed items will be donated to a local charity at the end of each term.
Who is allowed to pick up my child? Only people listed on the enrolment form. We are very strict on this for legal reasons. You can add extra people by notifying us in writing ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) How much notice is required if my child will no longer attend the programme? We require two weeks notice in writing. Do you run Holiday Programmes? Yes we do. ). Mission Kids is owned by the Joy to the Nations Charitable Trust. How are the staff selected? At Mission Kids we believe that who you are is the beginning of what you say and do! For this reason we are very careful about who we entrust and employ as our staff and volunteers. All staff are police vetted and attend regular Mission Kids staff training. Staff are specifically selected for their excellent character and love for children. What happens on an typical afternoon? A Mission Kids staff member will collect the Year 1 & 2 children at 3pm from their classroom and walk together to the hall. Children in Years 3 and above make their own way to the venue. The Junior College students arrive at 3:15pm. All children are signed in by the supervisor. If your child's name is on our day sheet and they are not present we will phone you. 3:15pm Afternoon tea time. 3:30pm Games 4:00pm Homework 4:30pm Daily themed activity 5:30pm Tidy up & quiet time What is your discipline policy? At Mission Kids we believe in firm, fair and positive behaviour management. In the event that a child needs to be disciplined, the child will first be reminded of the expectation and the consequence for breaking it. If the poor behaviour continues, the consequence will be applied. If at the end of this period, the child has demonstrated improved behaviour, they will be reintegrated into the day's activities. On the rare occasion when a child's behaviour becomes unmanageable, we will phone you immediately. More often than not behaviour is excellent and when your child has done well we love to let you know! What "values" do you teach my child? At Mission Kids we not only support what is being taught in the classroom but we also promote and model good character. Each week we focus on one character trait. These character qualities are listed on our website. Here are a few examples: Creativity vs. Underachievement: Approaching a need, a task, or an idea from a new perspective Enthusiasm vs. Apathy: Expressing joy in each task as I give it my best effort
Generosity vs. Stinginess: Carefully managing my resources so I can freely give to those in need
Do I have to complete an enrolment form even if I am a casual user? Yes you do. Any queries regarding your invoices should be directed to Sharon ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ). Please note that there are no refunds for absences and fees are charged if a regular enrolment falls on a public holiday. (As is the common practice across the OSCAR sector).
Are WINZ subsidies available? Yes they are. Mission Kids is a CYF approved OSCAR programme which means that eligible families can apply for WINZ (Work and Income New Zealand) childcare subsidies. Please ask us for a brochure to see whether your family qualifies. We are happy to help you with completing the appropriate forms. |
